MORE ABOUT NEUROFEEDBACK
I offer Othmer Method Neurofeedback (ILF, Synchrony, and Alpha-Theta) which can be effective for addressing:

-
Pervasive post-traumatic stress symptoms such as overactive fight/flight/freeze modes and unhealthy attachment patterns
-
Over- or under-active mental states such as emotional reactivity, attention deficits, sensory processing sensitivity, anxiety and panic, and nightmares
-
Physical symptoms of stress, such as migraines, stomachaches, sleep problems, muscle tension, and nerve pain

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback. Just as specialized sensors can show you your own heartbeat, neurofeedback shows you your brain wave activity. When the brain can see its own activity, it begins to self-regulate. It naturally improves the timing and coordination of its elaborate symphony of electrical activity. Neurofeedback is similar to learning a dance. Getting better is made more effective when you can see your own movements in a mirror.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEUROFEEDBACK SESSION?

-
Electrode sensors are placed on specific parts of your scalp. These sensors only detect your brain's activity. Electricity will not be sent to your brain at any point of the treatment, and there is no pain involved.
-
Relax for 20-30 minutes in front of the TV with headphones on. You can choose to play video games, or watch nature scenes or other relaxing videos. Based on your brain's activity, the screen may become more or less colorful, shrink or expand, and you may hear subtle changes in the music or other sounds. This is your brain's "feedback", and the way it will recognize its own activity.
-
Throughout the session, your clinician may ask if you feel any changes in your physical or mental states such as increased relaxation, new areas of tension, or changes in alertness. The clinician will make adjustments to the equipment settings based on your answers so you can leave the session feeling calm and alert.
-
Experience positive changes in the first week, sometimes after the first session. Get lasting effects by continuing sessions 2-5 times per week for 20-60 sessions, depending on your goals.

IS IT FOR YOU? SOME PROS AND CONS TO CONSIDER:

PROS:
-
Its powerful, non-invasive, and medication-free.
-
In contrast with medication, any negative side effects can often be immediately reversed in one session.
-
Positive effects are maintained without relying on life-long neurofeedback treatments. After one series of treatments (20-60 sessions depending on your goals), patients tend not to need any further neurofeedback treatment.
-
Othmer Method Neurofeedback offers a fully personalized treatment for your nervous system. It's not a one-size-fits-all treatment. It helps your unique brain optimize itself just the way it needs to.
CONS:
-
Neurofeedback is a time commitment. In order for changes to be lasting, a minimum of 20 sessions is required. For those first 20 sessions, it's most effective if done at least 2 times per week. If you're unable to do 2 or more sessions per week, it's okay. Brain training is like physical training; if you work out once per week, you'll still get the benefit, but it will take longer to get the results you want.
-
Like other high-quality therapies, neurofeedback is a financial commitment. However, a 30-session prepaid package can bring your costs down by hundreds of dollars.
-
Some clients experience temporary side effects, usually over the course of the first 1-5 sessions. These typically fade within 6-12 hours and can be reversed in-session if they seem to persist longer. Examples of side effects include increased agitation, "brain fog", or headaches.

Investment is $140 - $160 per session, minimum 20 sessions.
Payment plans available. A portion of these costs may be covered by insurance.
